These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CaptRead, including the CaptRead Windows application, digital theme packs, the website captread.com, and any related services. CaptRead is a product of CaptStudio, an independent one-person software project (sole proprietorship, "Personligt ejet Mindre Virksomhed") operated by Benjamin Løkke Stougaard, based in Denmark (CVR: 46652266), registered at Nørregade 40B, 2. sal, 7500 Holstebro, Denmark. Phone: +45 25 14 18 82.
By purchasing, downloading, installing, or using CaptRead, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
"CaptRead" refers to the Windows application, theme packs, digital content, and website. "Digital Content" refers to theme packs, individual themes, and any downloadable assets. "License Key" refers to the activation code delivered upon purchase. "Merchant of Record" refers to Lemon Squeezy, who processes all payments. "User" refers to any individual accessing or using CaptRead.
CaptRead theme packs are digital content delivered immediately after purchase. Delivery is considered complete once the license key is issued to the email address provided at checkout.
CaptRead does not guarantee delivery if incorrect or inaccessible email information is provided by the user.
Under EU law, consumers typically have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital purchases. This right does not apply once you consent to immediate delivery of digital content.
During checkout, Lemon Squeezy will present and record your explicit consent to waive the withdrawal period. Once consent is given and delivery occurs, the right of withdrawal lapses.
If you do not consent to immediate delivery, your digital content will only be delivered after the 14-day withdrawal period has passed.
Upon purchase, you receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the CaptRead theme(s) on your personal device(s). Redistribution, resale, sublicensing, or sharing of license keys is prohibited.
CaptRead retains all intellectual property rights to the software and digital content.
You agree not to: reverse engineer, decompile, or modify CaptRead; circumvent licensing or activation mechanisms; share or distribute license keys; use CaptRead for unlawful purposes; or attempt unauthorized access to systems or services related to CaptRead.
Violation may result in termination of your license without refund.
CaptRead is provided as a standalone application. While efforts are made to ensure stability, uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed. Updates may be released at any time without prior notice.
CaptRead may discontinue features or content at its discretion.
CaptRead relies on third-party services including Lemon Squeezy (payment processing, license delivery) and Google Analytics (website analytics). These providers operate under their own terms and privacy policies. CaptRead is not responsible for outages, errors, or data handling performed by third-party providers. Cookie consent management is handled by CaptRead's own code, not a third-party service.
Donations are voluntary contributions and do not constitute a purchase. No digital content or license key is delivered in return.
Donations are final once made, except in cases of technical error or unauthorized payment. If such an issue occurs, contact support@captread.com.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CaptRead is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
CaptRead is not liable for: indirect or consequential damages; loss of data; incompatibility with specific hardware or software; issues caused by third-party services; interruptions, bugs, or errors; or user misuse or unauthorized modifications. Liability is limited to the amount paid for the digital content.
This limitation does not apply where liability cannot legally be excluded or limited under mandatory EU or Danish consumer protection law — including your statutory right to digital content that conforms to its description under the EU Digital Content Directive (2019/770). Nothing in this section removes rights you're entitled to by law.
CaptRead does not guarantee: continuous availability; error-free operation; compatibility with all Windows versions or hardware configurations; or future updates or feature additions.
Digital content is provided without warranty beyond what is required by applicable law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark. Any disputes shall be resolved under Danish jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your own country of residence as an EU consumer.
CaptRead may update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect once published on captread.com. Continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
CaptRead reserves the right to terminate licenses in cases of fraud, abuse, or violation of these Terms. Termination does not entitle the user to refunds unless required by law.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first at support@captread.com so we can try to resolve it directly.
If you're a consumer in Denmark and we can't resolve it together, you may bring a complaint to the Mediation Team for Consumer Complaints and the Danish Consumer Complaints Board (Forbrugerklagenævnet), both under Nævnenes Hus: naevneneshus.dk. As of 2026, a main-rule minimum claim value of 1,220 DKK applies. If you're a consumer elsewhere in the EU, your national consumer dispute resolution body can be found via the European Commission's own directory: consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu (the EU's previous "ODR" platform was discontinued on 20 July 2025 and replaced by this directory).

This Privacy Policy explains how CaptRead ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the CaptRead Windows application, theme packs, digital content, and the website captread.com.
CaptRead is designed with privacy in mind. The CaptRead Windows application collects no personal data, uses no cookies, and does not track users.
The CaptRead Windows application does not collect personal data, does not store user profiles, does not use analytics, does not use cookies, and does not track usage, behavior, or device information. CaptRead itself does not receive or store the text you read, translate, or look up. Summarizing text and recognizing text in images (OCR) run entirely on your device.
2.1 Features that use online services — some features need an online service to work, and only send anything when you use them:
• Read aloud: the text you have selected is sent from your device to Microsoft's online text-to-speech service (the Read Aloud voices also used by Microsoft Edge), which returns the audio.
• Translate: the text you have selected is sent to Google Translate.
• Dictionary look-ups: the word you look up is sent to public dictionary services (the Free Dictionary API at dictionaryapi.dev, and Wiktionary).
• Offline voices (optional download): if you choose to download a higher-quality offline voice, the app downloads that voice file directly from public hosting — Hugging Face (huggingface.co) or GitHub (github.com). No text you read is sent, but those hosts see the download request and your IP address and handle it under their own privacy policies. Once downloaded, the voice reads aloud fully offline.
These requests go directly from your device to those services, not through CaptRead's servers. The services receive the text or word together with technical information your internet connection necessarily includes, such as your IP address, and handle it under their own privacy policies. In addition, the application contacts captread.com to check for updates and current discounts, and to sign in if you choose to use a CaptRead account.
The website uses Google Analytics to understand visitor numbers and general traffic patterns. Cookies are only set if you provide consent.
3.1 Data collected by Google Analytics — depending on your consent, Google Analytics may collect: anonymized IP address, device type, browser type, approximate geographic region, pages visited, time spent on pages, and referral sources. This data is aggregated and not used to identify individuals.
3.2 Optional account — you can also create a CaptRead account on the website (separate from buying a theme) to keep track of which themes and collections you own and view your purchase history. If you do, we store your username, email address, and a securely hashed password — never your password itself, see Section 6 — directly in our own database, along with which purchases are linked to your account. You can view, correct, or permanently delete this account and its data yourself at any time from your profile page, or by emailing us.
3.3 Basic first-party visit logging — separately from Google Analytics, captread.com's own server briefly notes visitor IP addresses to count visits and keep the site running smoothly (for example, preventing automated abuse). This is deleted automatically within seconds to minutes and is never linked to any account, shared, sold, or used to identify or track individuals.
All purchases and donations are processed entirely by Lemon Squeezy. CaptRead does not receive, store, or process personal data related to payments.
Lemon Squeezy may collect: name, email address, payment method details, billing information, transaction history, and IP address (for fraud prevention). CaptRead never sees or stores this information.
CaptRead does not sell your data, and does not share it with third parties for their own purposes. The third parties that receive information are: Lemon Squeezy (purchases and donations, Section 4) and Google Analytics (website visits, Section 3), and — only when you use the corresponding feature in the application — Microsoft (read aloud), Google (translate) and the dictionary services named in Section 2.1. No other third parties receive any information.
5.1 TikTok — captread.com maintains a TikTok account to share our own marketing screenshots and videos, which we create ourselves. This never involves your personal data, or any information about site visitors or customers — no CaptRead user data is sent to or shared with TikTok.
If you create a CaptRead account, your username, email, and password-derived hash are stored in our database — your actual password is never stored, only a one-way cryptographic hash of it, so even we can't see it. Beyond an optional account, CaptRead does not store payment information or billing details. License keys are delivered securely via Lemon Squeezy.
CaptRead does not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
Google Analytics, Lemon Squeezy, and the online services used by the application's read aloud, translate and dictionary features (Section 2.1) may process data outside the EU. These providers are responsible for ensuring adequate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
If you've created a CaptRead account, that data (username, email, purchase history) is held directly by us, and you can exercise your GDPR rights — access, correction, deletion, portability — directly with CaptRead: view and edit it from your profile page, delete your account yourself at any time, or email us at the address below.
For data processed by Lemon Squeezy or Google Analytics instead (payment details, analytics), or by the online services behind the application's read aloud, translate and dictionary features (text or words you chose to send), you may request access, deletion, correction, data portability, or object to processing, or withdraw consent — these requests must be directed to the relevant provider, since CaptRead never holds that data itself.

This Cookie Policy explains how cookies are used on captread.com. The CaptRead Windows application does not use cookies.
Cookies are small text files stored on your device to enable website functionality, remember preferences, and provide analytics.
When you visit captread.com, a cookie banner asks whether you allow analytics cookies. Your choice is stored in your browser so you are not asked again.
You may change your consent at any time using the 🍪 cookie icon in the corner of the page, or by clearing your browser's site data.
4.1 Necessary cookies — essential for website functionality, including remembering cookie preferences, enabling basic navigation, keeping you logged in if you have a CaptRead account, and ensuring security and session integrity. Necessary cookies cannot be disabled.
4.2 Analytics cookies — used by Google Analytics to understand visitor numbers and traffic patterns. Only set if you consent.
4.3 Checkout cookies — if you open a purchase or donation overlay, Lemon Squeezy may set cookies required to process payment.
Third-party services may set cookies: Google Analytics, Lemon Squeezy. CaptRead does not control these cookies. The cookie banner itself is built and hosted by CaptRead — it does not load any third-party script or set any cookie of its own.
You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling analytics or checkout cookies may affect website functionality.
